Changing of the Guard Military Ceremony
Buckingham Palace London.
No visit is complete without seeing this splendid military ceremony,
more properly called Guard Mounting. During which the new guard takes over from the old guard,
all to the accompaniment of a military band, escorting the guard to and from their barracks.
The band's repertoire ranges from marches to rock and pop.
The ceremony takes place at 11.30am in the forecourt of the Palace and last for about three quarters of an hour.
London Tourists keen for the best views start arriving hours before, with places
against the railings taken first followed by those on the Victoria Monument.
In winter the ceremony takes place on odd days, but from April to July daily.
The Changing of the Guard Ceremony is rarely cancelled, except for very wet weather though timings may vary due to
State Visits to the Palace. Notice the sentries beside their boxes? Nearest Tube: Green Park
Keen fans of the colourful pageant associated with this or similar ceremonies, or those just wishing for a photo opportunity,
might wish to see the Changing Of Queen’s Lifeguard
in nearby Horse Guards, by the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment.
During the day a mounted horse guard stands outside Horse Guards Arch, and a splendid sight they make. Dismounted sentries also stand guard the other side of the arch.
